Product X is designed for field applications where abrasive blasting is not always possible, and hand or power tool cleaning is the only option. Through a unique formulation, Product X is liquid enough to wick into complex geometry like bolt threads or the pores of tightly adhered rust, while being viscous enough to replace two coats of typical epoxy in a single coat. Product X can be applied over minimally prepared surfaces including damp surfaces.
The primary goal of Product X was to reduce field touch-up costs for facility owners by allowing for single-coat application, saving the time and access costs of typical two-coat systems. This goal has been achieved and field-proven through the innovative high-build properties of Product X. DFT of 20+ mils can be applied in a single coat with proper curing due to 92% volume solids chemistry.
Product X is available in two brushable formulations to maintain application properties across the wide range of temperatures found in the Prairie provinces. For cold-weather applications, select the Brushable Winter Grade formulation, which cures down to -7°C. For warmer conditions, Brushable Summer Grade is available, with a two-hour pot life at 24°C.
The unique flake fill present in formulation of Product X gives both its excellent high-build properties, while also increasing chemical resistance to acids, caustics and solvents, allowing use in secondary containment and tank lining applications.
Product X is a very high-solids (92%) coating, which compared with typical epoxies (70%), provides for excellent retention of film thickness at edges and corners, as the reduced quantity of solvent present reduces the tendency for the wet coating to “pull back” from edges as the solvent evaporates during curing.
Unlike other products in the market, Product X does not sacrifice impact resistance to achieve its application and curing properties, and maintains strong resistance to mechanical damage, further reducing touch-up costs. Product X achieves this by being flexible compared to other leading products which generally are brittle.
With the potash industry in mind during formulation, protection of steel assets in a damp, salty environment was the primary application, and the 10+ year track record of Product X shows its excellent corrosion resistance in touch-up applications. Product X can reduce labour costs by 25% or more compared to a typical 2 coat touch-up procedure.
